Kuri: Is it brown? Is it taupe? It’s a shading fountain pen ink that sits somewhere in between, with undertones of purple coming through. Chestnuts are still a popular autumn delicacy, and three nuts inside one chestnut were once a metaphor for parent and child.

Since 1911, Sailor has carried Japan’s traditional craftsmanship into writing. Its Manyo ink line, first released in 2019, takes its theme from the Manyoshu, Japan’s oldest anthology of poetry, and has grown across four editions of colours. Its fourth release turns to food.
